View Full Version : Visit the Destination before the wedding?

How many of you had the chance to visit your destination site before the actual wedding. I realize this is not always possible. My husband and I did take a weekend trip to our destination about 3 months before the wedding. I strongly suggest this if it is at all possible...it put my mind at ease to actually see the venue we had chosen.

I didn't. I just read alot of reviews online, watched several videos of the property and hoped for the best. Fortunately, it was even better than I'd hoped!

I also bought trip insurance (the expensive kind where you can cancel for any reason). That way, if the place I was paying big $$$ for turned out to be a dump, I wasn't stuck with it.

yes, it is indeed a great idea to visit the place before the wedding. there should be an ocular inspection to ensure that you have everything you need and that the "host" understood what you want. i am getting married by 2009 and i make it a point that my fiance and i included this ocular inspection, three actually, in our plans.

better be sure than sorry, right? :p

That is a fantastic idea plus you get away for another vacation! All tho it does add to the expenses... it is great to get it all straight in your mind before showing up for the real event and under stress.

well, i tried talking to my travel planner, and the estimate he gave me was so whopping, that i would go bankrupt after the marriage, so i have decided against it

I am planning a scouting trip with my mom next summer to visit our destination wedding location.

I think if I didn't see the place before our wedding I would be a nervous wreck the entire duration of the planning.

I really look forward to meeting with the on-site wedding coordinator, deciding where on the property we will have our ceremony, picking out how things will be set up, having a menu tasting, etc.. All which we would normally do if we were hosting our wedding locally so why not do it for a destionation wedding too?

I will be visiting my wedding resort for a total of 3 times in 1 year - with the third time in 2 weeks. Its imperative you visit your destination at least once so you aren't suprised by anything.

I strongly agree to that. You have to make yourself comfortable with the place before the wedding or else it will lead to wedding disaster.

I think visiting the destination before the wedding would take some charm and mystery out of it.

I think it's a must to visit the location before the wedding. I know it's not always possible if you marry at an exotic place but then watching videos and getting first hand reviews is very important to know what you can expect.

I don't think so it is a very wise choice. You will have to spend almost double the amount which can really affect your honeymoon.

I think it is a good thing that you do visit your wedding destination before your wedding day and people should do this because it is the right way and all the things is done before your eyes all the ceremony preparation and all the other important stuff you can deal with the event organizers at these times before the wedding date and you can also check the reaching time at your destination from your home. I think it is a very good idea and one must do act upon it. This is also called the properly planned marriage of wise people....

As a destination wedding consultant for the past 12 years and a Master Level Certified Destination Wedding Consultant, I have worked with so many couples who have not seen the resort prior to their wedding. I would say only 28% of the couples we have worked with have either travel down to see the resort before they booked or had already had a trip there and fell in love with it.

For our company it is all about working with venues like the resorts who have treated our clients in a professional and respected manner. We do not offer every resort, nor do we offer all of the resorts within the same chain. With each resort comes a different planner and staff who work differently. Plus our consultants travel to the resorts we offer regularly so we see first hand and offer first hand pictures for the couple to view. That way if a couple does not have the time or cannot afford to take a trip prior, they can take comfort in knowing that our suggestions are based on something besides a brochure. The know what the actual place looks like with the pictures because we do not Photoshop any.

Don't feel like you have to travel to a place. Go out and find a Destination Wedding Consultant who is Certified by the Destination Wedding Association, trust their opinion because of the education and requirements they have to go through yearly to keep their Certification.

Best wishes on your special day!

Yes,its really a cool idea to visit the destination before the wedding and
see what are the things you want and what are the things you want
to change to feel better.

I think its really a very good idea ....Great one...so both He/She
should plane the things.

The whole place in front of your eye site and it will give you the clear
idea.

Thanks
